Shabbat - rest when life keeps life-ing
I hope you are doing ok. As the conflict in Israel/Palestine rages on, and waves of grief keep coming, I know folks are feeling beleaguered and overwhelmed. I feel it too. I hope you are making space for rest, beauty, even joy. Those are the building blocks of peace-making, always.
I’ve also been overwhelmed by some life challenges particular to me (nothing too serious — all of it is run-of-the-mill life stuff). No matter how we feel or how the world is burning, we still need to figure out our taxes, what’s for dinner, who is picking up the kids from soccer, etc.
I’m thinking about that this Friday as we ease into Shabbat: how to welcome the every day small things and the big life things. How to take it in. How to process. How to be our best in a world that needs us.
Lately I feel like I don’t have answers or wisdom for the challenges of this world, but I do trust in the wisdom of our tradition’s call to rest each week. No matter what. The work isn’t done but we will keep at it longer and better if we recharge. Wishing that for you now.
